National digital experience insights survey opens for FE college staff

Our survey is open to all teaching and professional services staff in UK further education for the first time.

Teachers and professional services staff in FE colleges can use the new national survey to give feedback on their digital work environment. Questions cover the hardware and software available to staff, the support and guidance to use them, their impact on teaching and administration, and the digital skills needed to make the most of technology.

The two distinct ten-minute surveys for teaching and professional services staff cover both on-campus and off-campus digital experiences including issues of connectivity and staff members’ own input into decisions about software and devices.

Making staff voices heard

The survey will provide a digital audit for the further education sector. The sector results will be available to colleges to make informed decisions around procurement and training and provide a picture of what works well. At the national level the results will inform policy making and help sector organisations like Jisc to refine the help and guidance they provide to colleges, teachers and professional staff.

Kat Heywood, Head of business intelligence at Jisc said:

“The ultimate aim of Jisc’s Digital Experience Insights is to improve the working lives of teachers and professional services staff at colleges, and by extension the quality of further education in the UK. This is a fantastic opportunity for staff to give genuine feedback to colleges, sector bodies and governments about their lived experience of using technology in their work. It’s in every staff member’s own interest to complete this survey and encourage their colleagues to do so too.”

Take the survey

The two surveys open today, Wednesday 9 April 2025 and run for three weeks until Wednesday 30 April. The surveys take from five to ten minutes and can easily be completed on a mobile phone. For more information see 2025 FE teaching and professional services staff national surveys or jump straight into the survey for FE teaching staff or the survey for FE professional services staff.

A free online launch event and discussion about digital teaching in further education will be held tomorrow, 10 April 2025.

Exploring the digital experiences of teachers and staff in 2025: join the national conversation

FE colleges who run their own digital experience insights survey will continue to benefit from local insight specific to their own technology and digital environment. Staff from these colleges will be directed to their local version of the survey.
