Jisc security conference 2023 focuses on strengthening defences for the benefit of all

Programme for this year's security conference is now live.

This year’s Jisc security conference, which takes place 21-23 November, will tackle some of the most challenging issues currently facing the tertiary education and research sectors, and explore solutions that will help institutions defend against them.

The conference programme brings together a range of education and industry specialists as well as experts from Jisc to address questions such as:

  • How can colleges, universities and research centres strengthen their security posture?
  • How can they best secure their cloud infrastructure?
  • In what ways will cyber threats evolve over the next few years?
  • How can we build resilience to threats from new technologies such as AI?

Presentations, discussions and training sessions over three days will cover not only the key risks and vulnerabilities facing our sector, but also how to build resilient communities and establish an institution-wide culture of prevention.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Heather Lowrie, chief information security officer for the University of Manchester
  • David Crooks, distributed research infrastructure security manager at UK Research and Innovation
  • Dr Inka Karppinen, honorary research fellow at University College London
  • Simon Foster, head of protecting public sector domains for the UK Government’s Cabinet Office
  • Holly Foxcroft, head of neurodiversity consulting at Stott and May, and Jasmine Eskenzi, founder and CEO of The Zensory

David Batho, Jisc's director of security said:

“The cyber security threat landscape is always evolving, so we can never stand still.

“As the sector’s trusted cyber security partner, we make it our business to stay abreast of current challenges and to share intelligence and expert advice with members.

"By working together, we can make our cyber security defences stronger for the benefit of all.”
