About
The know your student survey, launched by DfE student support champion for England professor Sir Steve West on university mental health day in partnership with Jisc, set out to understand how effectively the higher education sector is using data and technology to support student wellbeing, experience and progression. With responses from more than 85 institutions, the findings offer a powerful snapshot of both progress made and challenges that remain.
This webinar will share key insights from the survey, exploring how institutions are translating student data into actionable, human-centred support. We will look at the growing maturity of engagement analytics, the indicators that are shaping intervention approaches, and the increasing recognition that academic progress, wellbeing and personal context must be understood together.
At the same time, we will reflect on the barriers many institutions continue to face, from fragmented systems to the absence of a true single student view, and consider what this means for staff working on the front line of student support.
Throughout, the session will emphasise the importance of ethics, trust and professional judgement, highlighting how data can inform care by supporting rather than replacing the human relationships at its heart.
Join us to understand what the sector is learning, where momentum is building, and what practical steps can help create more connected, compassionate and effective approaches to supporting students.
