About
The ORCID™ identifier is a unique identifier for researchers that is compatible with the ISO Standard (ISO 27729). ORCID IDs are issued free to the individual when they register with ORCID and are randomly assigned by the ORCID Registry, and are displayed and shared as a URL. The ORCID ID aims to track the career progression of a research student and follow their pathway into employment within the Higher Education sector; allows students or staff to connect their unique identity to their research and affiliations; and is a way of connecting researchers to their research and its outputs. This enables accurate attribution of research and its products.
The purpose of this webinar is to go through the guidance on ORCID IDs. Both how to store and collect these from staff members, but also how to send them in to HESA. The session will include some best practice ways of implementing these in systems and any other information we can provide. This support follows on from the outcomes of the staff record review outcomes which were published in July 2025. This is a HESA organised event run jointly with colleagues from the UK ORCID Consortium at Jisc, and representatives from UKRI.
