About

Explore key artificial intelligence terminology and concepts relevant to tertiary education. Examine the capabilities and limitations of generative AI, AI assistants and agentic AI. Practise introductory prompting techniques and learn to critically evaluate AI-generated outputs, recognising where human judgement and oversight remain essential.

This is the first session in module one. The curriculum is structured into three modules designed for teaching and learning staff:

Module one: understanding AI in tertiary education for teaching and learning
Module two: essential AI skills for teaching and learning
Module three: ethical and responsible use of AI for teaching and learning

Who should attend

This session is aimed at teaching and learning staff who want to build a foundational understanding of AI and develop awareness of its role in education.

What we cover

  • Core AI concepts and capabilities, including generative AI, AI assistants and an introduction to agentic AI
  • How generative AI works, including its capabilities and limitations
  • Using AI as an assistant while retaining human expertise and oversight
  • Getting started with prompting through clear instructions and relevant context
  • Critically evaluating AI-generated outputs and applying professional judgement

  • Develop a clear understanding of key AI concepts, capabilities and limitations
  • Practical examples of AI use in teaching and learning, including simple prompting
  • Exploration of AI-generated outputs and the importance of questioning, checking and human judgement

  • Non member, not-for-profit: £52 + VAT

This webinar is free to anyone from a Jisc member organisation (UK further education colleges, specialist colleges or higher education institutions). You will therefore need to register with your institution's email address.

Non member, not-for-profit organisations, for example multi academy trusts, schools and Independent HE, must register and pay to attend this session.
