About
So much of teaching and learning is delivered through sound and spoken language. How can we ensure that all students can access vital auditory content? Facilitated by experts, this workshop will cover:
- Why assistive technology is essential for deaf students
- Why loops are not a universal technology for deaf students
- Some of the latest technology being used in educational settings
- Incorporating assistive technology to provide a seamless experience for deaf students
Technology demonstrations will include:
- The Roger Base station – a universal provision for teaching areas where various audio outputs may be used (microphones, internet, YouTube, recorded digital resources, etc)
- A soundfield system that makes lectures and other audio visual resources accessible to those who wear, and don’t wear, hearing aids
Facilitators:
- Dr Brian Shannan, Educational audiologist, Scottish Sensory Centre and Clarivox
- Tony Murphy, Wireless technology specialist, Phonak
There will also be plenty of time to ask questions, share experiences and identify areas with which you would like further support. You are also invited to bring along cases you have experienced in the past, or have with your current workload (remember to maintain anonymity). To enable everyone to have a quality hands-on experience, numbers are strictly limited. Therefore, booking is essential.
If you will be using your own devices (e.g. cochlear implant, hearing aid, or Roger systems) and would like support with set-up for the hands-on part of the workshop, please tell us in the ‘accessibility’ section of the registration form, including the make and model of your device(s).
