About Data Matters 2025
Data Matters 2025 took place at the Lowry, Salford, on 23 January 2025.
Data Matters 2025 provided a space for data experts across the UK education sector to consider the challenges and opportunities, learning from each other to navigate the evolving education landscape.
Strategic HE or FE data leads joined us for a packed programme of insightful and future-focussed data presentations and networking opportunities.
Programme themes
Harnessing the power of data to provide insights and cost-effective solutions
We showcased the essential foundations and processes to inform policy and targets in data capacity and expertise across your organisation.
- Vision and strategy: creating a data strategy to support student outcomes
- Data-led discovery: insights to guide decision-makers on service provision
- The value of data: using research to drive innovation
Demo zone
Attendees joined us in the demo zone to talk to us and try out our products to see how they could help their organisation’s strategic data needs.
Learning analytics - engagement and attendance monitoring
Jisc’s learning analytics team demonstrated our upgraded attendance monitoring, learning analytics and student app. Attendees:
- Found out how our engagement platform could enhance student experience
- Tried out a hybrid register to identifying students at risk of disengagement
They discovered how flexible reporting and all critical student information in a single platform can help to manage intervention, capture attendance and prioritise students who need support.
Interactive insights
HESA data holds a wealth of insights for planners and decision makers, and Jisc's Data Analytics team helped unlock them in our interactive insights business intelligence dashboards.
We demoed our discover progression dashboard, co-designed with strategic planners to help you understand the demographics and movement of your undergraduates into postgraduate study, both at your institute and others.
Data maturity framework
The Jisc data maturity framework is a free guide to help different roles within your college or university understand and manage your data journey effectively. We showcased how you can use it to raise the profile of your data opportunities and challenges and how we can help you with focused solutions to get the most value from your data.
Hedd
Hedd is UK HE’s official degree verification service. Hedd has verified more than 1.5 million UK degrees since it launched in 2011. Hedd leads sector-wide efforts to spread verification best practice and combat degree fraud and is used by employers, screening agencies, universities, embassies and other third parties in more than 140 countries.
We showed how Hedd is working with Jisc colleagues on the use of student record data as the basis for degree verification requests, an important development which will drive up automatic verification rates and deliver significant efficiencies to members and customers.
