Cyber criminals are increasingly targeting schools

Be better prepared by strengthening your network and systems against increasingly sophisticated threats

Could a cyber attack close your doors?

The cyber security conversation is evolving. Education establishments must strive to prevent attacks, whilst also ensuring they are able to contain a successful attack to limit the impact and recover quickly.  Since a cyber attack on your school could result in a total shutdown of your network, or even worse, access to pupils’ data, minimising the impact of an incident is vital.

One government survey indicates that during a 12-month period, 52% of primary schools and 71% of secondary schools identified breaches or attacks. Every device, whether used by staff or students, increases the risk but is also part of the solution.  Schools are also unfortunately in the news, with pupils missing classes due to the rise in cyber attacks.

James Hickens, IT Manager, Leicester Grammar School Trust

“I can't recall a period of downtime in the years we've had this connection…we've got more time to do the things we're employed to do. More time to support the school and tackle the really interesting things that you want to do in education and IT.”

How E-ACT dealt with a cyber attack

E-ACT is a multi-academy trust (MAT) with 28 primary and secondary schools across England. Faced with a ransom demand placed on the server one day, their first reaction was to contact Jisc.
