Savings and value

Jisc makes a difference to our members in their day-to-day work, but the associated value and savings are of benefit to the wider UK economy as well as the sectors we serve.

In 2023, Frontier economics carried out an independent report on the economic benefits of Jisc, which quantifies the value and savings Jisc brings to our members, our sectors and the wider UK economy.

The report concluded:

  • Jisc helps save the sector up to £300m per year and contributes immensely to the UK economy
  • For every £1 they invest in Jisc, members receive a return of more than £3 just in terms of savings
  • Jisc generates high value for money for the taxpayer, with the wider gross economic benefits associated with its services worth more than £1.5bn per year

Value studies

The following value studies, conducted by an independent consultant, illustrate the cost savings of member organisations from the FE and HE sector through Jisc services. They focus on five areas: connectivity, cyber security, digital resources, trust and identity, and help and support.

To calculate cost savings, we used different methods for different products and services, such as comparing the cost of alternative providers of connectivity and cyber services. For digital resources we examined the cost of the agreements in use without Jisc’s discounts and terms and conditions. All participating member organisations were given the opportunity to agree the methodologies used and approve the findings.

Value in practice at Cardiff University and UCL

An independent study at two of our member organisations; Cardiff University and University College London, explored the value of the services we offer and how these compare to other providers.

It revealed that everyone in your organisation can benefit from our services and could also save you money; while our co-design approach enables us to develop services that work for you, as well as for the whole sector.
