Savings and value

Our impact in numbers shows, at a glance, how membership makes a difference to your organisation and the sector.

In 2019-20 we've helped you save £189m

Saving you time

Productivity illustration

Our commitment time to restore lost service is eight hours but, in the last two years our mean time to restore lost service has been just six hours and 32 minutes.

Across the year, members made nearly 600 purchases through our frameworks, saving hundreds of hours by not having to assess suppliers and procure their own products and services.

Saving you money

In addition to the savings from Jisc services above our software licensing includes the largest Adobe educational licence agreement in the world, brings the sector an extra £90.4m in cost savings every year.

Jisc’s negotiations have contained annual prices increases for electronic journal packages to 2.25% for HE and 1% for FE, compared to the market average of 4-5%.

The Jisc licensing team negotiate each separate resource agreement at the national level on behalf of the consortium, saving our members time and duplicated effort from negotiating individually and allowing them to concentrate on collection management. During the 2019/20 academic year, 8,242 unique product subscriptions were held by our members.

In 2019 the EUA Big Deal survey reported that there were huge variations, from €0.40 - €9.50, in the cost per download across 31 European consortia with different publishers. In comparison the cost per download within a Jisc negotiated agreement in 2019 ranged from 13p - £1.70, with an average of 85p.

Keeping you safe and secure

We’ve mitigated hundreds of hours of DDoS attacks for our members over the year, protecting the sector from outages that could cost a single organisation £3,000 per minute.

We issued over 14,800 security certificates for our members, enabling sector savings of around £5.7m.

Value in practice at Cardiff University and UCL

An independent study at two of our member organisations; Cardiff University and University College London, explored the value of the services we offer and how these compare to other providers.

It revealed that everyone in your organisation can benefit from our services and could also save you money; while our co-design approach enables us to develop services that work for you, as well as for the whole sector.
