Learning and teaching reimagined: synthesis of audience surveys

Learning and teaching reimagined survey report cover

We conducted a programme of primary research with three key audiences; learners, lecturers and those responsible for teaching and learning within their institution, involving:

  • A survey of 439 learners at different education stages and experience of online learning, and 5 focus groups with 31 current and prospective HE students
  • A survey of 323 lecturers in HE institutions
  • A survey of 40 executive leaders responsible for learning and teaching

We’ve learnt from a diverse range of contributors (learner stage and demographics, institutional typology, subject disciplines, experience of online learning), providing us with a unique view.

  • 54% of learners surveyed feel disadvantaged to some extent in their learning as a result of insufficient access to digital equipment, software or connectivity/broadband (20% said yes and 34% partially disadvantaged)
  • 60% of respondents who participated in Jisc’s learning and teaching reimagined leaders survey estimate up to a quarter of current learners at their organisation are disadvantaged because of insufficient access to digital equipment, software or connectivity

This was evidently an emotive subject for many we engaged, with common perspectives across all three audiences.
