Postgraduate course information for prospective students is increasingly important as the number of courses continues to grow.
Information needs to be easy to find and show comparisons between similar courses so that prospective students can make a confident, informed choice. If they can select the best course for them, they should be more motivated to complete it and achieve better outcomes.
These objectives can be better realised if the course information is produced in a standard format. The currently agreed UK and EU standard for describing course advertising information is called XCRI-CAP which outlines the XML standard and how to implement it.
About this project
The first stage of this area of work focused on helping 63 colleges and universities to improve their processes for managing course information. This enabled them to automatically create an XCRI-CAP data feed for certain types of courses, especially postgraduate, continual professional development and online.
This second stage will involve us working with national agencies that collect postgraduate course information and helping them to implement the XCRI-CAP standard, so that they can automatically receive information from universities. This will create costs savings and greater efficiencies for both universities and the aggregators.
Universities will benefit from additional support to enhance the quality of information they put into their XCRI-CAP data feeds, so that it is easier to compare information from different universities.
