"You want a technology that is as widely used as possible, as tried and tested as possible, as robust as possible and as engrained within as many organisations as possible. eduroam ticks all those boxes and it’s a service that I feel will evolve and develop over time to even bigger and better things."

Steve Cant, head of IT at Cornwall College

As a large and dispersed college, Cornwall’s challenge is to provide a consistent user experience across all its sites and ensure that students have access to all of the resources they need regardless of their location.

However, the college wifi system was clunky and its frequent re-authentication requests were a source of frustration for both students and staff.

Solution

eduroam, from the Janet Network, provides users with authenticated network logon and access to the internet through a single wifi profile and set of credentials.

Setting it up was straightforward and it has made life a lot easier for Cornwall’s learners.

Steve said:

“The fact that the wifi access is tied to their college network credentials means that they haven’t got to remember any separate wireless passwords, so it really does make life very simple for them,”

It has made bring your own device (BYOD) seamless and is saving time for Cornwall’s learners, tutors and IT department.
