The purpose of our workshop is to help shape a new business intelligence service for further education colleges in Wales. A shared service can:
- Increase efficiencies, so college resources can be released for other purposes
- Increase value, with rich interactive dashboards developed by industry experts
- Increase insights, by negotiating access with data providers
What we’ll cover
We’ll use the workshop to generate user stories. A user story is a simple way of capturing requirements. It concisely describes who a user is, what they want, and why they want it.
Participants will help us identify:
- The most pressing themes for Welsh FE
- Priority business questions
- The data sources most likely to hold answers
Participants will benefit from:
- An update from Welsh government on further education policy
- Examining how we can use data to address the challenges and opportunities in Welsh FE
- Building connections with colleagues from across the country
We will run a one-hour pre-workshop webinar at 14:00 on Monday 13 May. The aims of the webinar will be to:
- Demonstrate an example Jisc HESA dashboard suite
- Encourage participants to consider their requirements prior to the workshop
The full programme will be confirmed prior to the event.
This event will be facilitated by Rhodri Rowlands, senior data visualisation officer.
Rhodri’s role is to support the Jisc HESA business intelligence project, by mentoring Jisc's analytics labs teams in prototyping proof-of-concept dashboards, and by building data visualisation products to help education providers make informed decisions.
Who should attend
We want to collaborate with enthusiastic representatives from Welsh further education, including:
- Senior decision-makers (eg principals, vice-principals)
- Business intelligence providers (eg heads of management information, heads of information technology)
- Staff who use data to inform their activities (eg quality managers)
- Representatives from every Welsh further education college
- A cross-section of voices from each college
