Digi Lab

One of the features of our Connect more events 2016 was the Digi Lab.The Digi Lab enabled delegates to explore the technology in development and try out what’s currently being tested, and might have an application in education and research.

Programme

Thursday 16 June

    Connect more opens

    Registration opens.

Refreshments will be available and there’s an opportunity to meet with Jisc colleagues and explore the Digi Lab.

Here you'll have the chance to explore a wide range of tools, gadgets and machines, and consider how the technology that is on the horizon is being tried and tested in education and research.

Digi Lab will include examples of cutting-edge technology, including more affordable options as well as some higher-end tech that has the potential to become more commonplace in future.

  2. 10:00

    Welcome plenary

Led by your host Jason Miles-Campbell, head of Jisc Scotland, the opening session will set the scene for the day and will include a strategic update, and the latest news from Jisc.

With contribution from Dr Tony Jakimciw OBE, chair of the board of management, Borders College.

  3. 10:30

Connect more with the critical issues - choice of breakout sessions

How can the power of digital help you address some of the challenges you face?

Led by a Jisc expert you’ll be able to choose from one of three parallel sessions, focused on a current crucial issue.

Each session will also provide an opportunity to hear from local organisations, who are making the most of digital technology to help them address these issues.

Session one: Leveraging change through digital capability

Led by Lawrie Phipps, senior co-design manager, Jisc.

    With contributions from:

Led by Paul McKean, head of further education and skills, Jisc.

With contribution from Lina Petrakieva, academic development tutor, Glasgow Caledonian University.

    • Robert Stewart, workforce development adviser (learning technology), Scottish Social Services Council
    • Greg Walters, library learning technologist, University of Glasgow

Following on from this morning's breakouts, these good practice sessions will focus on how local colleagues are using the power of digital in their day-to-day work.

Practical in their approach, they’ll enable you to take away ideas and approaches to put into your practice.

Choose one from the following sessions.

Session six: Collaboration through technology: moving from possibility to practice

Led by Emma Smith, media services development coordinator, Jisc.

With contribution from Anna-Wendy Stevenson, applied music programme leader, University of the Highlands and Islands.
