About
The Black FE Leadership Group (BFELG) will be hosting two online events, a workshop and a half-day conference, both sponsored by Jisc.
Workshop, 10:00-12:30
Using the BFELG 10-point plan to deliver whole organisation anti-racism staff development
This focussed, practical professional development will be led by Suki Dhesi, BFELG member and vice-principal, Havant and South Downs College (HSDC). Suki will draw on her experience and share methodology that has been successfully used to ensure that staff are aware of the need to challenge racism, at a conscious and unconscious level.
Through a mixture of presentation, independent activities, discussions, and feedback the workshop will provide a safe and positive learning environment and the tools to build participant confidence in planning anti-racism action.
This workshop is for: senior leaders with responsibility for quality, teaching and learning, human resources, staff development, organisational development, and heads of academic and business services departments.
Please note that the workshop can only accommodate 50 participants.
Half-day conference, 13:00-16:00
Using the BFELG 10-point plan: institutional journeys towards a culture of anti-racism
The half-day conference will feature in-depth case studies presented by senior leaders from three colleges, illustrating their journey's towards anti-racism.
Participants will gain leadership insight into a variety of institutional contexts, approaches, and experiences and have opportunities to ask questions and contribute ideas to the agenda.
This conference will be of interest to: decision-makers, governors, principals/CEOs, senior leaders, and anyone who has an interest in creating and sustaining an anti-racist further education system.

Newham Sixth Form College (NewVIc) is a sixth form college in the London Borough of Newham, serving a very diverse community of students in the 16-18 age range. Although NewVIc has one of the most diverse boards and senior leadership teams in FE (half the SLT are black), they recognise that there is still much to do to ensure that they are a truly antiracist College.
