Our goal is to help further education (FE) learning providers in England evaluate and take advantage of the many benefits that technology can offer, throughout the area review process and beyond.
Personalised support, as and when you need it
Due to each college inherently having different characteristics as well as different objectives and requirements, we appreciate that the nature, level and in particular, timing of support we can offer will vary from college to college. We also recognise your needs will be personal, based on the timing of where you are in the area review journey.
Whether you are just entering the area review process or are on the cusp of implementation post-area review, we’re here to help. Here are some examples of the support we can offer:
Preliminary briefing meeting
Jisc attends the first area review briefing meeting to provide an overview of the value of leading-edge technology and to outline the most relevant Jisc services, tools and solutions that we believe will be of support to you.
We will also provide you with the contact details of your named Jisc account manager who is your companion and guide regarding accessing and reviewing the technology best suited to meet your needs.
Following the briefing meeting, your Jisc account manager will provide you with a personalised area review dashboard which outlines your college’s current use of pertinent Jisc services.
The dashboard will also contain an aggregate view of the utilisation of these services by other colleges within your area review group so that you can easily see how your college compares.
Technology review tool
This free tool, specific to the area review process, facilitates a better understanding of the maturity of digital technology within an individual organisation. It helps give visibility on technology effectiveness as well as identify potential improvements to back-office systems and changes to teaching, learning and assessment practices.
It is at the discretion of the individual college to initiate the technology review with Jisc, and whether they wish to share findings with within their area review group.
Financial insight review tool
This free tool provides not only detailed analysis of the full cost to deliver all IT services by service, but also benchmarking against peer institutions. This provides a way to identify areas of relatively-high and low IT spend.
Transparency and benchmarking provided by this tool delivers robust decision support for future IT cost management.
Specialist advice and ongoing support
We offer specialist advice from our team of experts in curriculum design, business process, IT and enterprise systems, and workforce development.
We can provide advice and assistance to participating colleges throughout the process both for data submission and governor decision making. We can also offer ongoing support with agreed implementation plans arising from the area review processes.
We also offer support and advice regarding how technology can support colleges who wish to merger and/or rationalise.
Help with efficiency savings
With our support, we can help you deliver efficiency savings which will:
Transform your curriculum delivery
Facilitate access to free and discounted quality digital content
Help you rationalise your services
Help you track learner progression and destinations
At the point of implementation, you may also benefit from the following services, many of which are freely available to colleges as they are supported by funding provided to us from the Department for Education:
Shared data centre A cost-effective co-location data centre facility for research and education
