Amazon Web Services (AWS) offers a broad set of on-demand global compute, storage, database, analytics, application and deployment services, allowing you to scale up and down to meet your organisation’s needs. Access to these services is greatly enhanced by Amazon’s connection to the Janet network.
Our web portal enables customers to procure AWS cloud services with new, enhanced benefits and to effectively manage user access to Amazon Web Services in one central area. This has been developed specifically for research and education, in collaboration with AWS and Arcus Global. The portal provides institutions with core administrative facilities, as well as offering additional benefits to help manage budgeting and control costs.
Institutions can now access the flexible, pay as you go AWS Direct Connect service and use Janet's high capacity, low cost network to connect to the technology resources provided from AWS’ EU west region in Dublin.
Capability to set budget limits for individual user accounts or departments
Log in to view and authorise all of your user accounts through one central portal
Monthly invoicing means you no longer need to use credit cards for payment
Administrators can retrieve service usage information within own areas of responsibility
Volume discounts achieved through aggregation across multiple educational institutions
Arcus Global is an approved partner in Amazon’s egress waiver programme, enabling you to export data from AWS at a reduced cost. In addition, it is aggregated across all qualifying education and research accounts taking the potential saving above the 15% maximum AWS provide for a single qualifying account.
All organisations involved in the provision and advancement of education and research in the UK are eligible to use this service.
