ZigBee (IEEE 802.15.4 Standard for Wireless Networking)
A standard approved in May 2003 for low cost, very low power consumption, short distance wireless connectivity at data transmission rates of up to 250Kbs. Aimed at applications where long battery life (years) is important and data transmission requirements are relatively modest. Examples include home/building environment control, medical sensors, industrial controls, some PC peripherals, toys, games and consumer electronics. Products are expected in 2004.
