This project aims to extend APIS and RQP (Remote Question Protocol) to support mediation of human and external computer marking.

APIS marking services

Assessment related projects funded under the DeL and ELF programmes have so far concentrated on computer marked assessment items, however there is also a great need for support for items that require human marking, such as essays and CAD drawings, essential to assessment in many subject areas. This project aims to extend APIS and RQP (Remote Question Protocol) to support mediation of human and external computer marking.

Aims and Objectives

The overall aim of the project is to develop a toolkit for integrating external marking web services into e-learning applications, for example VLE's or assessment systems.

The specific objectives are to:

  • Extend the existing RQP specification to support external asynchronous marking services
  • Produce open source code libraries and an API to provide support for mediated marking services in Java and C#
  • Add support for file upload items and external marking services to APIS
  • Integrate the marking services with the Moodle VLE
