The project will provide test-bed and support facilities, as well as project output repository facilities, for the content of JISC 5/99 and some X4L projects.

JORUM and the Development Bay

Introduction

Jorum+ will provide a practical ‘test-bed’ investigation into a digital repository for learning materials, one that is both capable of providing the technical infrastructure for storage and retrieval of learning objects, and stimulating the re-use of learning materials for UK further and higher education.

The aim is for the two JISC national data centres, EDINA and MIMAS, to develop and prove working capacity as the JISC repository for learning materials: the Jorum – a ‘drinking bowl; its content’.  This would form part of the JISC Information Environment.  The project will have short-term focus on the outputs from both the JISC 5/99 learning & teaching projects and the JISC Exchange for Learning (X4L) projects, offering facilities to house project outputs and support re-purposing of extant content in the X4L programme.

Practical support of project staff engaged in 5/99 and X4L projects is to be provided, in close collaboration with the Centre for Educational Technology Interoperability Specifications (CETIS) and the project teams from the other X4L Strand B projects, TOIA and Reload.

Scoping of user requirements for the JISC’s long-term learning materials repository (LMR) will be undertaken and a report provided to the JISC.

PLEASE SEE THE PROJECT WEBSITE FOR DETAILED INFORMATION ON JORUM AND ITS PROGRESS.
