Records lifecycle for planning & strategy

The project tested the practical application of the planning and strategy-related themes from the Study of the Records Lifecycle by developing and commencing the implementation of a retention schedule for planning and strategy records created throughout the University of Edinburgh.

The project provides the community with feedback on the use of the Study of the Records Lifecycle in a university with no previous records management experience; a more detailed analysis of some of the functional areas identified by the Study; a methodology for mapping the functions, activities, transactions and records of an organisation; a generic retention schedule for university planning and strategy records in all media; and a practical consideration of the issues associated with implementing a retention schedule, including digital preservation issues.
