The objective of this pilot case study was to take the generic findings on records retention relating to the student assessment process in JISC's revised Study of the Records Lifecycle, from the setting of the assignment to the making of progression and award decisions. It tested their applicability within a specific HEI, in this case Northumbria University, and fed back the experience to the community to help inform actual implementations across the sector. The outputs are a completed institutional retention schedule for the records relating to student assessment covering the records of the process itself and the student assignments, in both hardcopy and electronic formats, based on a pilot study within the School of Informatics, plus a report explaining the methodology used and issues raised and overcome in applying the retention recommendations with particular emphasis on establishing good practice in records management and on continuing access and preservation of records in digital format.
