Loughborough University is presently reviewing its ICT strategy in response to recent developments, including the news that the University would be hosting both Team GB and the Japanese Olympic team in 2012. We are exploring the JISC Strategic ICT Toolkit as an aid to this reflective thinking process. Loughborough is also working with the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education on a Change Academy project to explore “Simplifying Services” through greater use of online self-service tools and other approaches including potentially a smaller number of service points. This is an area where key stakeholders have been actively engaged in shaping strategy.

Strategic ICT Toolkit Field Tests - Loughborough University

Summary

Loughborough University is presently reviewing its ICT strategy in response to recent developments, including the news that the University would be hosting both Team GB and the Japanese Olympic team in 2012.  We are exploring the JISC Strategic ICT Toolkit as an aid to this reflective thinking process. Loughborough is also working with the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education on a Change Academy project to explore “Simplifying Services” through greater use of online self-service tools and other approaches including potentially a smaller number of service points. This is an area where key stakeholders have been actively engaged in shaping strategy.

Objectives

We will focus on exploring “institutional maturity” in terms of Strategic ICT using the Strategic ICT Toolkit. Having conducted a small scale initial pilot of the toolkit, the project will consult more widely, including Heads of School/Department and Heads of Support Services. In addition to gathering quantitative feedback using the JISC toolset, the project will exploit the consultation process to identify specific areas where ICT Strategy has been particularly well aligned to institutional strategy, or needs to be updated to better reflect this.

Anticipated Outputs and Outcomes

  • Feedback to JISC and the Leadership Foundation on the Strategic ICT Toolkit
  • Progress reports via the JISC ICT Strategy Blog (http://jiscits.wordpress.com)
  • Short case study compiled from blog posts, highlighting key areas
  • Feedback to the institution on ICT strategy strengths and weaknesses
    • Further engagement with stakeholder groups
