Tools and Innovations projects
This strand of projects aims to improve the efficiency and quality of 'Repository Functions'. These projects are primarily software tools but also examine issues such as approaches, models and workflows; indeed all work which helps develop practice and understanding of this environment. Some projects also address the area of digital preservation.
These projects are funded by the April 2006 and the September 2006 capital calls. 11 projects have been funded covering:
- Metadata generation tools
- Migration and ingest of repository objects
- Ontology creation
- Overlay journals
- Curation of robot-generated experimental data
- RSS and Atom
- Software presevation and access
- Image access
- Preservation metadata
- Costs of digital curation and lifecycle management
These projects will stimulate informed change by piloting new approaches and technologies. The benefits will be an improved understanding of new technologies and their application to repositories; increased flexibility and usability of repository systems and improved preservation tools.
