Scoping study into the information requirements for the management of technology implementation projects
A joint colloquium of JISC and the Association of University Administrators was held in November 2005. Amongst the issues identified was the concern that administrative staff involved in directing projects involving technology, and, in particular, the introduction and implementation of new systems and their associated infrastructure, have difficulty in identifying and estimating the nature and extent of information and resources required to manage and implement the project.
Some administrators feel themselves unable satisfactorily to gauge or estimate some information essential as critical inputs into project management tools, such as the widely used JISCinfoNet project management toolkit.
Duke and Jordan have been commissioned to provide a scoping study to establish the nature and scale of the information required by administrators and managers in planning such projects. The study will make recommendations about the ways in which such information might better be estimated and any other ways in which managers might be supported in this process. It will address the use of the JISCinfoNet toolkit and any other products currently favoured by sector institutions. It will also make recommendations for further work that JISC might undertake to improve the effectiveness of administrators and managers in this area, including the development of new tools, or refinement of existing ones, where these are appropriate.
See more information about the processes to be used in this work.
