Records, archive and information management, along with associated information compliance issues, are all activities which have a significant overlap with digital preservation approaches to digital asset management.

Records & information management

JISC has shown its commitment to supporting the work of Records Management practitioners through a number of programmes aimed at developing tools, frameworks and policies (see programme archive section).  The JISC InfoNet service is also an important resource for staff within institutions who are charged with the various and often challenging task of ensuring that institutions are efficient, cost effective, timely and compliant with managing administrative and research and teaching-related information. The information available from JISC Legal is also an important source of advice and guidance about the legal side of using digital technology and as of August 2009, it has also taken over responsibility for the information and news sections of what used to be made available through the JISC Information Governance Gateway (JIGG).

JISC is committed to working with its services and other organisations such as The National Archives (TNA), the Society of Archivists (SoA), and the Records Management Society (RMS), to define and disseminate best practice in this field.
