JISC Information Governance Gateway - JIGG
Overview
The JISC Information Governance Gateway (JIGG) is 2.5 year project funded by the JISC. The original development phase (1) of the project ran from May 2006 to September 2006. The revised Phase 2 proposal was modified to reflect the departure of one of the partners from the project. The two funding partners for the project up until January 2007 were the Liverpool Business School (Liverpool John Moores University) and Mimas (University of Manchester). With the departure of key staff in January 2007 Liverpool John Moores University withdrew from the project. Mimas continued with the work commitment as detailed in the original JISC approved Phase 2 work plan and with the agreement of the JISC has worked with the University of Manchester to submit a revised Phase 2 proposal (approved 26 March 2007) to address how JIGG can now be progressed effectively. Changes made include greater emphasise given to workshops, practitioner involvement and the website as a means to collaborate and build a community for sharing expertise and advice. This project covers the period to 31st December 2008.
The Gateway has been commissioned as part of JISC’s ongoing programme of activities aimed at supporting and developing institutional records management and compliance with information-related legislation. JIGG will take a holistic view and offer a “one stop shop” for information rights and governance legislation including, but not necessarily limited to:
- The Freedom of Information Act 2000
- Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002
- The Environmental Information Regulations 2004
- The Data Protection Act 1998
- Copyright legislation
There will be a practitioner focus to the Gateway but it is also anticipated that members of the public, various information governance related agencies and others will use aspects of the Gateway.
The project will involve designing, implementing, hosting and maintaining an online Information Governance Gateway. The gateway will contain resources of relevance to both practitioners and the public regarding the HE sector's compliance with information governance legislation and will include a central point of access to all HE Publication Schemes and Disclosure Logs. It will also facilitate online debate, the exchange of learning and best practice concerning information governance; and establish a means by which frequently asked questions and their answers can be accumulated and shared.
It is anticipated that an early (beta) and unrestricted version of the Gateway will be available to members of the Advisory Groups in early June 2007 with a full launch to the wider community in September 2007. It is likely that there will be amendments and innovations over much of the period of the project’s duration (to end of 2008).
