PALS Metadata and Interoperability programme (phase 3)
PALS 3 follows on from two earlier successful programmes - PALS 1 (2005-6) and PALS 2 (2006-7)
Objectives
- Develop guides for publishers and libraries on key standards, articulating benefits, costs and challenges of employing such standards
- Explore issues regarding the application of identifiers to digital objects (in particular relating to complex digital objects or digital collections) or to entities such as authors or institutions
- Investigate issues surrounding the integration of publisher-initiated standards into the JISC IE
- Develop tools to simplify the effective adoption of metadata and interoperability standards
- Develop workable mappings which would allow for cross-searching across digital materials on specific themes or subject areas
