Research data management planning projects (RDMP)
Good research data management is the foundation for good research. Improving the way in which research data is managed will rely on close partnership between stakeholders and an understanding of the impact of disciplinary priorities, existing data management provision, research funders’ policies and institutional context. Most Research Councils - and significant research funders like the Wellcome Trust - now require that applications for funding include an appropriate plan detailing how data outputs will be managed during and after the lifetime of the project. The need to improve research data management planning is thus a challenge which affects many researchers in UK Higher Education. JISC seeks to improve practice in research data management planning by means of a strand of projects working in areas identified in partnership with research funders. This strand of projects will furnish detailed case studies, casting light on research data management issues, illustrating the range of problems and their solutions and providing model data management plans.
The projects are working in partnership with the JISC-funded DCC, which is producing guidance in this area in the form of a Research Data Management Plan Content Checklist
The findings which emerge from these Projects' experiences will feed into work to refine and integrate existing data management planning methodologies and tools (e.g. DAF, DRAMBORA, AIDA).
