This project is part of the Joined up System for Learners project cluster in this particular programme. Projects in this cluster will develop a learner-focussed Managed Environment by linking their Virtual Learning Environments to other student support systems.
Background/Context
The project provides an opportunity to enable institutions to harness the data already stored in local MIS (Management Information Systems) systems. MARTINI brings in the organisational aspects of the students' learning environment into a single point of access.
Aims and Objectives
The project will provide an integrated information delivery service for students. It will deliver what students need, where and when they need it. As such it will be the focus of student access to institutional information systems.
The project will provide a framework which can be reused at any institution to enhance the student experience. The primary stakeholders are the students themselves and they will be a key factor in defining success and failure.
The project will develop a Web-based front end and a set of tools which will allow the integration of a range of institutional information systems. It will be database-driven, to include both static data (e.g. course guides) and dynamic data (e.g. course marks, accommodation information and so on).
Project Design
The project will deliver a set of technologies to enhance student access to information. The technologies are designed to be easily reusable. The project is designed to reflect emerging standards against the pragmatic data stored in institutional systems.
Implications/ Deliverables/ Stakeholders
The project will deliver:
- Data models
- Code tools as open source
- Case studies
- Input to standards activities
- Examples of best practice
