Overview

This project (CCLiP) will offer an enhanced and expanded information service about CPD provision from local HE and cultural organisations to the creative/cultural industries. Building on the CPD Noticeboard - an online system based on technology developed by the JISC project ‘The Learning Matrix’, CCLiP will display courses, events and training opportunities in one place for the benefit of employers, employees, mentors and other independent learners by the:

  • use of a common standard, XCRI, for provision descriptions
  • automated information collection from institutions and cultural organisations;
  • identification and addressing of inter- and intra-institutional barriers to the production and sharing of such standards-based information, to ensure long-term service and the partnership sustainability;
  • improved capacity to gather information about CPD requirements from users

Aims and objectives

Aims of the service, to:

  • Provide easy access to lifelong/work-based learners to information on CPD provision regionally
  • Improve institutional business processes for effectively and efficiently managing and collating this information, and also from cultural organisations
  • Secure business intelligence from users to inform future provision
  • Develop stronger relationships with employers in this disparate sector

Objectives:

  • Review current procedures for automatic information collection from partners and enhance using the XCRI standard
  • Gather information about CPD needs of this sector
  • Develop and trial mechanisms for gathering information from users.
  • Create the CCLiP based on the above

Project methodology

CPD provision is historically less coherent than undergraduate or postgraduate taught provision. The project aims to help learners find pathways through learning opportunities offered by multiple providers but recognised by all. Alan Paull’s experience will be drawn upon in analysing business processes and practices and the use of XCRI. It will provide a test of the XCRI standard for this type of provision

The service will support dialogue and information exchange between learners and providers, enhancing the latter’s responsiveness. The neutral broker, Liverpool City of Learning will support and drive forward the collaborative approach.

Anticipated outputs and outcomes

  • A fully operational CCLiP Portal receiving and holding information about regional CPD provision in XCRI compatible format for the cultural/creative sector from the 3HEIs and LARC (the ‘Big 8’) Arts organisations in Liverpool
  • a multimedia online workshop based on workshop sessions delivered to HEI and cultural sector colleagues aimed at raising practitioner understanding of how to generate information for presentation through the CCLiP, and how to make effective use of the information it returns
  • Accompanying technical documentation
  • A detailed project report ion the change process involved
  • A project website and blog recording progress
