The Resource Discovery Network consists of several subject based hub sites offering specific communities a tailored view of the web. Our project is focussing on improving and expanding the functionality of these services in order to develop them into fully-grown Subject Portals. In order to design software tools that simultaneously satisfy the needs of a variety of different sites and make it easier for institutional portals to embed our services in the future, we are designing a series of web 'Portlets'. One Portlet will be built for each of the key portal functions required, focussing initially on authorisation, cross-searching, alerting and authentication.

The Subject Portals project has now been extended into Phase 2.
