Resource discovery strand of Information Environment 09-11

The aim of this strand is to explore ways of providing seamless access to resources for learning and research in Higher Education.

These projects are testing and evaluating software, solutions, workflows and infrastructure. Some projects will produce enhanced services at a local level and others are scoping services at a national level.

Common themes of the strand

The resource discovery projects are exploring themes such as:

  • Metadata
  • Automatic metadata generation
  • Personalisation
  • Aggregation of resources

Relationship to other strands or programmes

There is a strong link to the repositories and to the shared infrastructure strand of this programme. Some rapid innovation projects are covering similar themes. There is also a relationship between these projects and the forthcoming access and identity management programme.

Who is this work relevant to?

The outputs and outcomes of these projects will be relevant to librarians, web developers, repository managers and academics.

This strand will produce best practice, tools, guidance and in some cases national services for the community.
