Visual History Project
Overview
The Visual History project looks to address the on-line visualisation and retention of data and assets that are produced by students while undertaking a research project in History, and is applicable to a wide range of related subject areas. Currently outputs from such projects are displayed on large display boards using printed copies of images, maps and typewritten narrative, but this has two disadvantages. There isn’t the possibility of displaying multimedia items using these methods, and the display boards are available for only a short time at a specific venue restricting the potential audience. The Visual History Project will define a structure of “History items” to enable “views” of the project linking items by use of a map, timeline, or through other attributes. This will form the basis of a display board metaphor. It is envisaged that an XML schema will provide the technical means to facilitate this which will enable exchange, interlinking and search of assets, and the potential to link these to archives and repositories.
