Study of ownership & responsibility for energy costs
This project is concerned with understanding how ICT costs are allocated and managed within an organisation. Behind this lies the concern that sustainable and cost effective decisions are not being taken because: Costs and benefits are falling to different parts of an organisation; and Costs and ability to influence costs are falling to different parts of an organisation.
The main aims for Stage 1 are to identify:
- current practice;
- what possible alternative methods exist or could be considered (with pros and cons);
- and further areas to explore in Stage 2.
Project methodology
The project starts with desk research to find out who is already doing what in this area – both from within the education sector but also outside. We will create a model of what currently works, what doesn’t, why and identify possible solutions. This will be followed by a survey and selected interviews with key stakeholders to test and refine the model. We will take the findings from this research (summarized in an interim report) to a workshop of key individuals where we will test the viability of solutions. Our conclusions and recommendations will be summarised in a final report.
Anticipated outputs and outcomes
This project will deliver two reports – an interim report before the workshop in June and a final report in July 2010. The final report will set out our findings and recommendations for Stage 2.
