IBuilding
Overview
iBuilding will see the introduction of an ICT system to facilitate communication with staff and students as to the energy consumption of the UCLan campus. The system will be in the form of a dashboard that will share data with users, captured by automatic meter reading (AMR) equipment, and enable users to drill down to data at a building level. The dashboard will enable two way communication between Facilities Management (in particular the team responsible for Environment and Sustainability) and staff and students.
Aims & Objectives
The overall goal of this project is to reduce the energy consumed in UCLan by educating and changing the behaviour of staff and students.
The objectives are:
- To implement a system that enables two way communication between staff and students with the team responsible for environment and sustainability.
- To help staff and students understand the energy consumed by UCLan buildings and how they can help to reduce it.
The aims of the project are:
- To develop an energy dashboard that provides information about energy usage across UCLan;
- To enable staff and students to drill down into the data on the dashboard to access data on a building by building basis;
- To create two way communication through the dashboard by:
- Creating a system through which the team responsible for environment and sustainability can send messages to staff and students;
- To create a system that enables staff and students to feedback to the team, make suggestions, highlight good practice and identify energy wastage;
- To change the behaviour of staff and students so they take action to reduce energy;
- consumption by:
- Educating them on the importance of reducing energy consumption in terms of both cost and environment;
- Rewarding good practice by individual members of staff, teams or departments;
- Setting examples from senior members of staff;
- To better communication of UCLan’s aims, successes and achievements with regards to reducing energy consumption;
- Identify worst practice within the University and align the communication campaign to address it.
Project Methodology
The project will be lead by Facilities Management and supported by LIS. LIS will work with FM to develop details business requirements for the dashboard. FM and LIS will work with the suppliers of the utilities management software to develop the dashboard and implement it at UCLan. FM will develop their communications strategy to be implemented through the system and the impact will be monitored through evaluation with staff and students and monitoring the energy consumption of the campus.
Anticipated Output & Outcomes
The anticipated outputs for the project are:
