FSD Early Adopters Study (FEAST)
Overview
This study will collate details from a large number of different examples of flexible services incorporating common frameworks and mutual cooperation, shared services, cloud computing initiatives, etc, for selective analysis. Examples relevant to the further/higher education sector (UK or internationally) will, with JISC guidance, be used for detailed study seeking lessons and pitfalls.
Aims and objectives
To conduct a study to identify, explore, document and analyse examples of large-scale shared service and cloud computing implementations for core administrative and related academic systems across UK universities and colleges.
To produce models and high quality guidance materials on effective practice around shared service and cloud computing planning and implementation in further and higher education aimed at different stakeholder groups.
Project methodology
The project will split in to three main phases –
- Collection of relevant examples of shared services and cloud computing from around the world and the selection of 6 examples which will be expanded in to detailed case studies;
- The creation of 6 detailed case studies – and lessons/recommendations to be drawn from them; and
- The development of relevant dissemination materials, the linkage between FSD projects and specific Early Adopters and other key output materials specified within the original JISC 05/10 Programme Call document
Anticipated outputs and outcomes
A review of shared services and cloud computing, with a description of several different structural models which help to categorise different types of examples. A long list of examples of Shared Services and Cloud Computing, a short list which will then be exploded in to 6 detailed Case Studies.The creations of relevant information for dissemination across FSD projects.
