Gathering a group of experts and practitioners to work in partnership with JISC helping to explore the challenges of Film and Sound in education

About - Film & Sound Think Tank

Who

The Film and Sound Think Tank, convened by JISC, consisted of about twenty invited contributors who were identified for their expertise and commitment to innovation in this field. It is co-Chaired by Paul Gerhardt and Peter Kaufman.

Why

Before us lies a unique opportunity to engage educators, students and the broader public to use and produce moving images and sound in new ways. This exists primarily because of an explosion in the amount of Film and Sound content available online and the ease of production and distribution.

This, therefore, is the time to bring together and engage those responsible for national initiatives, cultural institutions, commercial companies, broadcasters and rights organisations in film and sound who are best placed to ensure this future potential can be realised.

The Opportunity

To promote best practice, innovative ideas and new initiatives
To promote understanding of the rights and licensing issues
To harness technology in pursuit of building the best environment for access to film and sound content
To advance thinking on the key issues surrounding educational and public access to film and sound collections.

What the Think Tank did

- Debated and discussed issues
- Formulated and input to strategies operating within education and beyond
- Produced best practice guides in key areas
- Produced publications through film and sound and other media
- Convened "laboratories" for more in depth consideration of key topics
