Opening keynote

The conference opening keynote: Towards a digital pedagogy will be given by David Puttnam (Lord Puttnam of Queensgate). David is well known as a producer of many award-winning films. He retired from film production in 1998 to focus on his work in public policy as it relates to education, the environment, and the 'creative and communications' industries. This session will be facilitated by Sarah Porter (JISC).

Theme 1: learning landscapes

Advances in digital technology are making possible cross- and inter-institutional initiatives that were previously beyond reach. Theme 1 selects for closer analysis some innovative approaches to assessment and lifelong learning, plus institutional practice that extends our understanding of the potential role of students in curriculum design and delivery. These sessions illustrate the depth of response from UK further and higher education to the continuing need for flexible, efficient and forward-looking learning experiences, aided and enhanced by technology.  (This theme runs for 48 hours from 8.30am on Tuesday 22nd November)

Keynote

The Theme 1 keynote: tensions in collaboration in a changing landscape is given by Bill Rammell, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Plymouth University. Facilitated by Neil Witt (Plymouth University).

Session 1: An evidence-based model to enhance programme-wide assessment using technology: TESTA to FASTECH . Presented by Tansy Jessop and Yaz El-Hakim (University of Winchester) and Paul Hyland (Bath Spa University). Facilitated by Mark Russell (University of Hertfordshire).

Theme 2: navigating pathways

New developments also bring new challenges. Theme 2 explores some of the potential benefits and issues associated with technology-enhanced learning and teaching, including the need for to support the development of sharable resources and high-quality digital literacy skills among staff and students, plus ways of ensuring flexibility and relevance in curriculum design. The Theme 2 keynote challenges us to rethink where, as well as how, learning takes place. (This theme runs for 48 hours from 8.30am on Thursday 24th November)

The Theme 2 keynote: navigating the future of education is given by Mike Sharples, formerly of the Learning Sciences Research Institute, University of Nottingham, and now at the Open University. Facilitated by Diane Brewster (Consultant).

Session 4: What needs to change in curriculum design? Presenters: Simon Cross (Open University), Alan Masson (Ulster University), Jim Everett (Strathclyde University) and Paul Bartholomew (Birmingham City University) . Facilitated and chaired by Peter Bullen (University of Hertfordshire).

Closing keynote

The Crowdsourced Keynote: co-creating learning . We are pleased to announce that this will be given by Ewan McIntosh of notosh.com. Ewan is a teacher, speaker and investor, regarded as one of Europe’s leading voices in developing engaging experiences through digital media for public services. This session is facilitated by Tom Barrett, also of notosh.
