For many delegates especially those who are attending an online conference for the first time, it can be a refreshing experience, one where you can engage with the speakers more easily and more in-depth than is sometimes possible at a face to face conference.
In many conference presentations there is only time for a few questions and though delegates may go off during the following break and discuss it, they do this in small discrete groups. With the online conference there are opportunities to ask many more questions of the presenters and your fellow delegates. You can continue the conversation with others in the asynchronous discussion and as well as starting your own discussion you can join or jump into other discussions too. Often within the conference the discussions will link into other sessions and a greater understanding of the debate or topic often follows. Many delegates who take part in these discussions make new contacts that allow further discussion and networking beyond the virtual walls of the conference.
