JELFAD: Jisc E-Learning Framework Assessment Demonstrator

This project demonstrates several Assessment Tools that are part of the JISC e-Learning Framework. The Tools include the ASAP web services, the ASIP components for presentation of questions, and tools to author the material with an appropriate learning design.

Aims and Objectives

The overall aim of the project is to undertake trials of JISC e-Learning Framework assessment tools. These will be conducted in a live educational context with full evaluation and appraisal.

The specific objectives are to:

  • Produce assessment content for the higher education community
  • Integrate this content into coherent packages with innovative delivery mechanisms
  • Adapt and enhance existing JISC e-tools to achieve the necessary interoperability and functional specification
  • Conduct trials of the assembled components in a specific educational context
  • Provide analysis and conclusions on the technical and pedagogic effectiveness of the tools

Project Methodology

The project demonstrates results from several initiatives concerned with development of assessment technology. The APIS project has developed open source software for the rendering and delivery of questions conforming to the QTI 2.0 specification. The ASAP project has produced web services to provide and validadate assessment material. This project will demonstrate these technologies in a live education context, in conjunction with other relavent technologies: the RQP protocol for transmission of questions and answers will be investigated, and tools will be used to package the content to enable a method of learning design.

Implications/ Deliverables/ Stakeholders

This project will deliver

  • Novel assessment content and examples of how it can be innovatively packaged
  • Adaptions and enhancements to existing e-tools and user agents to enable the necessary interoperability
  • Dissemination of good practise and recommendations for future work and directions
