Ict4.biz
Brockenhurst College, Totton College and Farnborough College of Technology
are partners in the ‘Applied ICT for Business’ (ict4.biz) Centre
of Vocational Excellence (CoVE). ict4.biz’s collaborative work has
created a complex need for sharing of enrolment, course and learner
management data between the partners. This project will
standards/services-enable three Management Information Systems (MIS) in
common use in the FE sector. Data to be shared will include learner, staff
and class records, timetables, enrolments, statistics (retention,
achievement, success, gender etc). This data is currently shared through
off-line records and paper-based reports (derived from each partner’s MIS).
Aims and Objectives
The specific objectives are to:
-
To implement a partnership deployment of Brockenhurst’s Sweet.NET toolkit
-
To Sweet-enable the MIS at each partner college through the authoring of
adaptors
-
To aggregate data drawn from the 3 MIS into a single partnership portal
-
To demonstrate the operational benefits of the prototypical regional MLE
Project Methodology
The project will be managed and implemented by the Brockenhurst College MLE
Development team. The team will work in partnership with MIS and IT staff
at each of the three colleges, and with the ict4.biz steering group, to
identify and meet the specific requirements of the end users. The majority
of the coding work will be completed by the MLE Development team and it is
hoped that a Foundation Degree student from the CoVE will also gain work
experience through coding involvement with the project team. FD Learning
and Capita will support the project in a consultancy capacity as an when
the need arises. They will be kept closely informed of the work of the
project as it progresses so as to ensure compliance with support contracts
etc.
