Copyright Advice and Support Project for Electronic Resources
Background
The REPRODUCE programme has sought projects to develop, run and quality assure technology enhanced courses using reused and repurposed learning materials. An important expectation of projects is that they will “ensure that sufficient resource is allocated to facilitate clearance, dealing with Copyright issues and liaising with the project support team. The risk register should clearly articulate expected issues in this area.” To support this JISC has asked JISC Collections to provide a central support function (CASPER) for the clearance of materials for use in these courses/projects. It is expected that CASPER will provide a range of advice and guidance on best practice in the clearance of materials for educational use. CASPER may also undertake clearance of specific materials where there are benefits and savings to be had.
Aims & objectives
- Undertake a variety of activities that will support the RePRODUCE projects in clearing their content for use
- Develop the competencies of those projects for the future
- Provide educational institutions throughout the UK with advice, guidance and tools to support the use and reuse of learning content
Project methodology
CASPER will work with the projects to help them clear their rights. To do this we will provided a range of best practice guides, exemplar letters and licences and visit all of the projects to discuss rights management with them.
CASPER will also be recording the experience of the projects as they seek to clear third party rights, provide recommendations to the JISC and others on rights management and provide case studies at the end of the project alongside a final report.
