Sustaining and embedding innovations - A Good Practice Guide

This guide is an online resource intended to support project steering groups and management teams in further and higher education in decision making in this area. It distils lessons learnt from various JISC innovation and transformation programmes and focuses on:

  • Changing people and culture
  • Influencing organisational change
  • Embedding or aligning innovations
  • Creating useable tools and resources
  • Commercial and open approaches to innovation
Rationale for producing this guide
  • A changing economic and funding climate will require higher education institutions (HEIs) and further education colleges (FECs) to seek out opportunities to more fully exploit investment of time and resources in innovation projects, through e.g. collaboration, capacity-building, institutional embedding and generally maximising benefits from sector investments in innovations
  • There has been too much re-inventing of the wheel in innovation projects across the sector and a better balance needs to be achieved between institutions experiencing innovation projects for themselves, and learning from others.
  • There is increasing focus, at sector, institution and faculty levels, on return on investment and cost/benefits in relation to innovation projects

The guide has evolved through learning gained primarily through the JISC Curriculum Delivery and Design programmes, but also includes outputs from:

The guide is available here. The intention for this resource is that it is developed and enriched by further examples of good practice through the Cloudworks site, where this resource is also represented. View feedback and examples of good practice.
