The aim of this ‘Technical Rapid Innovation’ project is to extend the functionality of the Moodle VLE by linking it with the Student Records system. In particular this project would focus on the development of the following block: • View exam results: develop a ‘window’ onto UNIT-e Student Records system to allow students to view their exam results once logged into Moodle. It is anticipated that the block could be used by any institution using the same systems (Moodle, UNIT-e) and that the community could use the underlying code to develop blocks relevant to their own systems.

Exam View - Integrating Key Student Systems with the VLE

Overview

The aim of this project is to create a link from the VLE to the Student Records system, to allow students to view their exam results. The anticipated benefits of this application are:

  • Avoid duplication of effort – staff only put results in one system.
  • Avoid delays in accessing results – students have access to live information.
  • Encourage use of systems – staff are encouraged to input results timeously and students are encouraged to use the VLE.

A standards based approach to development will ensure that the application can be used on the widest range of systems.

Outputs

The project has produced the following outputs:

  • Application
  • Source code
  • User guides
  • Project documents and processes (The final report is available from the foot of the page.)

Aims and objectives

The aim of this ‘Technical Rapid Innovation’ project is to extend the functionality of the Moodle VLE by linking it with the Student Records system. In particular this project focuses on the development of the following Moodle ‘block’:

View exam results:  develop a ‘window’ onto the Unit-e Student Records system to allow students to view their live exam results (located on Unit-e) when logged into Moodle.

It is anticipated that the block could be used by any institution using the same systems (Moodle, Unit-e) and that the community could use the underlying code and documented development process to develop blocks relevant to their own systems.
