Brass Tacks - Key Challenges in delivering a Flexible Curriculum

Meeting objectives

The principal intentions of the meeting are to:

  • help the projects get down to Brass Tacks by addressing some key areas in relation to administration and resourcing of the curriculum
  • explore myths and perceptions in relation to what level of transformation is possible in some of these areas
  • provide examples of good and innovative practice from within and beyond the programme
  • facilitate action planning where it would be beneficial for us to work as a group on some of these issues
By the end of the workshop
  • Projects will have explored the issues from a range of stakeholder perspectives
  • Projects will have seen examples of innovation in practice and had the opportunity to discuss what might be transferable to their own context
  • Projects will have seen demonstrations of some open source tools that could be adapted for their own context
  • Projects will have agreed an action plan for any of the topics that need to be progressed via the programme/cluster groups
Who should attend?

There are 2 places per project (unless additional participants have been invited as presenters). The projects are invited to consider which team members are most concerned by these issues. It is not expected that time will permit a lot of technical discussion around the tools or approaches but it may be that follow up sessions for technical staff is an outcome of the action planning.

Pre-meeting activity

Projects have been asked to come prepared to give brief updates as a cluster group (max 15 mins per cluster including questions/discussion). The updates should focus on the themes of the meeting where possible.

Please come prepared to give a short update on new developments as a cluster group. We have allowed a maximum of 15 minutes per cluster including questions/discussion. We would particularly like to hear updates that relate to the main themes of the day but feel free to include anything else that it may be useful for others to hear. We envisage this being an informal session with verbal updates but you are welcome to use a couple of slides or other media if this helps.
