This project aims to develop and evaluate models of good practice in using technology to transform the teaching, learning and assessment in higher-level business education delivered at Kingston College in partnership with Kingston University. Kingston uplift for business education

Overview

KUBE : Kingston Uplift for Business Education seeks to enhance the learning experience of students studying on higher level business education programmes delivered at Kingston College on behalf of Kingston University. The project will focus on the introduction of an integrated suite of ILT tools and services in order to transform the delivery of the business curriculum. The KUBE project will adopt approaches which attempt to address the pedagogic, vocational and lifestyle needs of our learners and generate effective and meaningful outcomes of value for the sector.

Aims and objectives

The KUBE project aims to develop and evaluate models of good practice in using technology to transform teaching, learning and assessment in higher level business education. Four key objectives have been identified to address the issues.

  • Support learners through the use of interactive online resources.
  • Enrich learning and teaching through the use of mobile technology.
  • Extend the role of e-learning through blended learning curriculum delivery models.
  • Support teaching staff through an e-supported peer observation scheme.

Project methodology

The KUBE project will be based on a collaborative enterprise between the School of Higher Education business within the Faculty of Business and Professional Studies, the ILT Support and Development division and Kingston University business school. A small team of tutors will provide the initial core for KUBE activities and will then assist in mentoring a second set of tutors within the school and so on. The eLearning team will provide development training and support in resource creation and deployment throughout the duration of the project.

Anticipated outputs and outcomes

Anticipated outputs from the KUBE project will include:

  • Curriculum delivery models comprising pedagogic planning and scheme of work construction with annotated models of effective blended delivery.
  • A suite of interactive learning resources, including mobile learning objects and study skills material.
  • Teacher Observation toolkit for self assessment and peer observation alongside a repository of video exemplars of good practice.
  • Case studies examining the application of different technologies at various points along the learner journey for HE Business students.
  • FAQ’s and guidelines concerning the adoption and integration of a range of technologies

Technology / Standards used

It is intended that the KUBE project will use a Moodle platform with a Mahara based e-portfolio and assessment tools. It is intended that all other technologies used in the KUBE project will conform to open standards.
