The initial Course Data Stage 2 Programme Meetings took place in London on Tuesday 7th February and Leeds on Wednesday 8th February. Both events were well attended with just under 100 participants across the two days. The events gave members of the Stage 2 projects the opportunity to meet together and discuss their own experiences, describe their project work and form informal networks with each other in a number of ways including by geographical location and type of system used. Issues and areas covered during the two days: • Participants came from a variety of roles – both technical and non-technical, from different types of institution and had a range of experiences of working with course data and in projects. • It is important therefore to gain a common understanding of terms and language used in relation to the projects. • Experiences within projects are varied, with a range of systems and processes currently in place including paper-based to technology-based solutions. • There appears to be some confusion over KIS, HEAR, XCRI and XCRI-CAP, what they mean and how they fit together, if at all. Further guidance on these areas would be welcomed. • Quality and integrity of data is an important aspect and this project activity brings with it the opportunity to address this within individual institutions. • There was a lot of discussion throughout both days about the importance of getting processes right – and, importantly, doing it before applying the technology. Feedback from projects was that this sort of process review activity has either been kick-started by this programme or enhanced by it. • There was much discussion around what the outputs should look like. • Projects were keen to engage with each other going forward – based on a number of common areas – particularly systems-based – but also related to job role and geography. This engagement included the establishing of JISCMail groups as well as visits and meetings. Thanks to everyone for their enthusiasm and participation at both events. The Project Support Team found the feedback and suggestions very useful and will endeavour to feed these into future Course Data programme activities.
