Course Data Stage 2 Plymouth College of Art: Technical, Interface, Content and Dissemination domains within Art and Design course advertising information (TIC)
For Plymouth College of Art the implementation of the XCRI-CAP feed provides an opportunity to undertake process re-design whilst also managing the developmental changes required to enable the institution to prepare for increasing demands for course advertising information. However as a specialist art institution, Plymouth College of Art has discovered through Stage one project research that prospective Art & Design students wish to see not just information relating to course content but also relevant course staff profiles and related research/professional practice before making decisions.
In addressing these agendas the College has identified three essential and overlapping, domains:
- Technical Domain Issues
- Content Domain Issues
- Interface Domain Issues
Reflecting these domains the project will consist of three primary research areas and one dissemination domain:
Technical Domain Issues will be dealt with through the implementation of the XCRI-CAP feed as a COOL URI outlined through stage one for all College provision. This will include all College core provision (undergraduate and postgraduate) totalling approximately 35 courses and may be extended to include short courses, further education and CPD provision if successful within the life of the project.
Content Domain Issues will innovatively develop user-friendly and sustainable staff profiles based upon a system that supports automatic links between course information and the profiles of the staff teaching within these areas.
To do this the College will maximise its membership of the GuildHE Consortium for Research Excellence Support and Training (CREST) by building upon the Mahara system implemented by the University London Computing Centre (ULCC) to support CREST staff research profiles.
Interface Domain Issues will maximise the use of the extended XCRI
-CAP feed (outlined above) as the College will create, maintain and share through planned Creative XCRI
-CAP Assemblies an aggregation site for specialist art and design institutions, further promoting XCRI
-CAP and the extended XCRI
-CAP which stakeholder analysis / research within the institution has proven to be of interest to prospective art and design students.
A further domain that will form an integral part of the project will be the “Dissemination Domain” which will aim to ensure project outputs are disseminated appropriately.
The objectives of this project deal with three differing but complementary domains, which are all related to the implementation of the XCRI-CAP feed within Art and Design institutions. In addition a further domain will deal with dissemination of results. The domains will be formed as follows:
- Technical Domain Outputs – XCRI-CAP feed production
- Content Domain Outputs – XCRI-CAP feed extension
- Interface Domain Outputs – XCRI-CAP Aggregator website
- Dissemination Domain Outputs – Dissemination of work undertaken
Each domain will be considered as a specific work package and outputs for each shall be provided.
This project also aims to strengthen relationships within the GuildHE Crest network.
Anticipated Outputs and Outcomes
- Internal process redesign
- Creation of the XCRI-CAP COOL URI feed
- Development of extended XCRI-CAP feed to include greater information relating to staffing research profiles
- Undertake a comparison between Moodle and Mahara considering benefits and disadvantages
- Creation of an aggregation website for smaller / specialist Art and Design providers.
- Dissemination of XCRI-CAP feed and extension to other potential stakeholders
- Work collaboratively in the form of a Creative XCRI-CAP Assembly to share best practice and findings
- Dissemination of extension of XCRI-CAP feed through CREST network.
- Report and dissemination of findings of Stage 1 to wider community
- Organise and promote symposium event
