We propose to develop a widget that will take xcri-cap 1.2 course data feeds and display a calendar of CPD courses, based on the following search criteria:

• Keyword
• Institution
• Date range
• Region

It would take the form of a web service to be hosted on Graduate Prospects’ servers and client-side JavaScript to display the calendar. In addition, a number of JSP tags will be developed which, when inserted into a client website, will display the widget, enabling the user to select their search criteria. The search results will be displayed in the format of a summary of matching CPD courses, with hyperlinks to further information should this be available.

We also propose displaying the location of the courses in Google Maps if such information is available.

The Web Service will return results in a number of formats e.g. – JSON, XML or HTML to allow flexibility in using the service

Graduate Prospects currently develops in a Java environment making use of OpenSource technologies such as Spring, Hibernate and Apache Tomcat.

Example Use Cases:

1. The Institute of Mechanical Engineering insert the widget on their website. The widget is customised to pull back and display Mechanical Engineering related CPD courses in a variety of locations.
2. The HR department at a company in the North West, based near the University of Bolton insert the widget on their intranet. The widget is customised to pull back and display CPD courses in the North West.
3. An NHS Trust insert the widget into their e-learning platform for dental practitioners and display CPD courses available over the coming month.
